- Cardinal Louis de Rohan's fascination for Chinese Art - exhibition

Aristocratic ceramics.

This exhibition will feature a collection of ceramic pieces from China and Japan, and decorative objects from the Far East, put together by the Cardinal Louis René de Rohan.

These objects were stored at the Saverne château until the Revolution, the only remnants of a legendary collection put together by the prince-bishop of Strasbourg. In retrospect, these pieces reveal the sheer richness of his collections, but also reflect the general taste for ceramic arts from the Far East that had become the norm in Europe's aristocratic circles.

This major exhibition will be focused on the collection itself, its tumultuous history, but also on the Chinese kiosque that was set up in the Saverne Park, a request of Louis de Rohan.
