A historic event. The fair in Troyes known as the Foires de Champagne has been an established part of French cultural life for a long time. As early as the 5th century the fair was popularised thanks to Troyes' location on a much-used Roman road, the Via Agrippa linking Milan to Burgundy. Yet it wasn't until the advent of the Counts of Champagne that the fair underwent a golden age in the 12th and 13th centuries. The event was given a new lease of life in 1965, when it was relocated to the parc des Expositions; today over 300 exhibitors and 70 000 visitors attend every year.
