Jumièges Abbey, a Benedictine monastery in the Normandy Seine Valley, was founded by Saint Philibert in 654. It became a major centre of religion and learning, particularly in the eleventh century, but was badly damaged during the French Revolution.Today there remains some of the most impressive ruins in France with Romanesque (the nave) and Gothic features (the transept and chancel). The abbey now provides a spectacular setting for many artistic and cultural events. In summer, lighting is used to showcase the beauty of the architecture, creating a unique atmosphere within the 15-hectare grounds.
