The Cathedral of St. Sacerdos in Sarlat-la Caneda was built over five different centuries, thus it has a gatehouse dating from the twelfth century, an apse from the fifteenth, a choir from the sixteenth and a nave from the seventeenth century.Close to the chevet, the Lantern of the dead, a relic of the Roman abbey, commemorates the death of St. Bernard in 1147 and the episode of the miraculous bread, which, blessed by him, healed those who ate it. The shape of this tower is certainly enigmatic.Near the cathedral, the mansion La Boétie (where Montaigne's great friend was born) has a facade that harmoniously blends both medieval and Renaissance styles.
