One of the last French fortified chateaux built in the 15th century, Bonaguil is a perfect example of the military architecture of that time. The castle has 104 cannons, a dungeon, six towers and seven equipped turrets, arranged concentrically. It was built on an ancient troglodyte cave 20 meters high.Berenger de Roquefeuil, lord of the manor from 1448 to 1530, was to transform the castle into a fortress. He added to the building a barbican, a chicane, 7 drawbridges, and a bunker. In addition to architecture influenced by Viollet-le-Duc, the château de Bonaguil is famous for its graffiti, traces of noble parties at the castle during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
