Located on a terrace surrounded by a moat stands the famed château that saw the demise of Nicolas Fouquet, Superintendent of Finances under Louis XIV. Architect Louis Le Veau, painter Le Brun and landscape architect Le Nôtre worked together to produce this gemstone of old stones. It is made up of a central block with a square vestibule from which one can access an oval-shaped salon with a view of the gardens. The wings served as private residences, decorated with stucco, gilded carving and various paintings. In particular, visitors should take note of the grandiose painting, representing the nine muses, in the "Chamber of the Muses".
