The Sedan château has a long history. The local seignory was bought in 1424 by the Count of La Mark. He began a construction project that integrated part of the 11th-century Saint-Martin church and a Benedictine priory dating back to the 13th. Only the twin towers and the triangular floor design remain from this initial construction. During the 16th century, the château became an important stronghold thanks to the added ramparts and four bastions. This edifice remains one of the first ever examples of a bastioned stronghold and, with the constant additions and reinforcements, today it covers a total surface of 35 000m² over 7 floors.
