Notre-Dame Cathedral in Strasbourg is a stunning sight, magestic in scope with its ample propotions watching over the city. The spire, pointing 124 metres skywards, is a beacon, a charming landmark for all who visit the city. Some of the edifice's more notable features, which inspired many a poet, are the Gothic nave, the astronomical clock dating back to the Renaissance and the lavishly sculpted gateways. Ascending the 332 steps leading to the panoramic platform is not for the faint of heart. For courage, keep in mind the words of Victor Hugo: "From so high up the landscape is no longer a landscape, it becomes a map... a living, breathing geographical map… I would walk from one tower to the other and see France, Switzerland and Germany bathed in a single ray of sunlight".
