Ferdinand Cheval (1836 - 1924) was a French postman with a strange obsession. On his daily rounds he would pick up stones with which be built, over 3 decades between 1879 and 1912, what he called his "Ideal Palace". The Palais idéal du Facteur Cheval is a fascinating example of naïve art, a motley assemblage of every conceivable architectural style and a wonderful monument to discover.
