The village of Baume-les-Messieurs is one of the most beautiful in all of France. It lies within the most extensive of Jura’s blind valleys, the Reculée de Baume. The surrounding limestone cliffs are home to a series of waterfalls, caves and grottos, which can be visited and seem straight out of a fairytale. A natural site classed Natura 2000, the "reculée" is made up of three central valleys overlooked by vertical cliffs rearing 200 metres above.The village is dominated by the Benedictine Abbey, which dates from the Middle Ages, and is popular with day trippers and walkers. Guided tours of both the abbey and natural wonders are available.
