Saint-Front in Périgueux only became a cathedral in 1669. It comprises two buildings: the "old church" dating from the 8th and 9th centuries, and the 12th century church with cupolas, almost entirely rebuilt in a neo-romanesque style by Abadie in the 19th century.Overlooking the town over the island, the Saint-Front Cathedral, classed as a Unesco World Heritage Monument is a fine example of Byzantine influence. It refers directly to the Hagia Sofia in Istanbul.
