The Castle of Baux de Provence comprises a large collection of buildings, all in differing states of repair corresponding to different periods. These buildings reveal the changes that the nobles and residents had to make, over the years: the extension of the castle itself, structural alterations to Saint Catherine's Chapel, the small castle lane, etc.The fortress stands to the north-east of the plateau, on the highest point (241 metres) with an exceptional panoramic view of the vineyards and olive groves, as immortalized in the works of Cézanne and Van Gogh. The castle and, indeed, the entire village of Baux-de-Provence is steeped in art and history.
