The Grand Palais in Paris is an impressive 240-metre long edifice that rises to 45 metres in height, situated between the Champs Elysées and the place de la Concorde. It was built just in time for the World Fair of 1900 in Paris and sports a magnificent glass-roofed nave. Designed by three architects working together, the Grand Palais hosts exhibitions as well as shows and trade fairs. In 1964 a section was converted into a series of galleries, on the request of André Malraux, the then Minister of Culture. The work of a number of top-level artists has been exhibited here including Georges de la Tour, Gustave Courbet, Chardin, Monet and Nicolas Poussin.
