Poland, officially the Republic of Poland, is set in central Europe. Its capital, Warsaw , has always been popular with tourists and boasts a variety of sights and attractions. Despite the destruction suffered by Poland in World War II, it has managed to uphold much of its culture and currently has 14 heritage sites inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Warsaw Old Town quarter was reconstructed after the War and is a hotspot for visitors.

Travel
Getting to Poland is simple from almost anywhere in the world. If you are visiting Warsaw, fly to the Chopin Airport, just 10km from the city centre. There is also a good rail network which services Warsaw. Wroclaw also has its own international airport. Once in Poland, use the frequent buses and trains or rent a car.
Food
Poland may not be known for its food, but don’t be fooled – there are plenty of tasty treats on offer! Try Pierogi, which are a cross between dumplings and ravioli, filled with any number of delicious ingredients. Soups are also a great part of Polish cuisine and there is a huge variety to choose from. For dessert, try Faworki, deep-fried ribbons of crisp pastry, covered in powdered sugar. Perfect for any sweet tooth!
Events
Wianki is a festival celebrated every year in Warsaw. It has its roots in an old, peaceful pagan ritual where maidens would float their wreaths of herbs on the water of the river to find out who they would marry. Now it has become a cultural festival, including concerts and many other events.
Interesting Fact
Wroclaw boasts the second largest medieval market square in Europe in its Old Town. The largest can be found in Krakow. Wroclaw also holds an annual medieval festival which includes everything from jousts and horse archery to medieval dances and other activities.
