Cité des Congrès de Nantes

The radiant Cité des Congrès in Nantes. The Cité des Congrès has been animating the cultural and professional life of Nantes for more than 25 years. It is one of the most dynamic convention centers in France and contributes to the city's national and international reputation. Plays, ballets, one-man shows, concerts and operas are regularly performed there. You will discover artists such as Gérard Jugnot, Benjamin Biolay, Anne Roumanoff, Gaspard Proust and Véronique Sanson. Access to culture for all is one of the main themes developed by the Cité. Socially responsible rates and events organized outside the city walls are therefore on offer. The space can also be used for private events: conferences, trade fairs and company conventions can therefore be hosted here. The Cité's team is available to listen to your needs and offer its know-how to support each project by developing and enhancing their strengths. The building's glass architecture provides natural lighting and a calming view of the Saint-Félix canal. Before returning to your Première Classe Nantes Saint Sébastien sur Loire hotel, enjoy a drink on the banks of the river Erdre at the Lieu Unique, a cultural center located five minutes away on foot, in the former LU biscuit factory building.

Museum

Jules Verne Museum

The Jules Verne museum is a trip to the center of Vernian writing. Nestled on Sainte-Anne hill overlooking the Loire, a vast 19th century bourgeois house has been home to the Jules Verne museum since 1978. From your Première Classe Nantes Rezé Aéroport hotel, opt for a literary afternoon on the edge of the author's imagination and ingenious creations. During a chronological and then thematic tour, the museum presents excerpts from the works, posters, portraits, letters, models of extraordinary machines (such as the Nautilus), illustrations, etc. inviting the spectator to enter the writer's whimsical universe. A number of objects that belonged to him are also on display, such as a globe, patinated by time. The museography is complemented by digital media and ends in a projection room and a reading room. Originally from Nantes, Jules Vernes (1828-1905) spent his childhood there before leaving for other regions. Often considered one of the most famous historical figures of the city, many creations and events pay tribute to him (such as the Machines de l'île which remind us of his fantastic worlds). As one of the most translated authors in the world, the museum strives to raise public awareness of the richness of Nantes' Vernian collections. An exotic journey into the author's wonderful worlds!

What to do in a week in Nantes?
Enjoy Nantes with the whole family
Get a taste of the good life and enjoy the city’s rich heritage with a weekend in Nantes. Visit the Château of the Dukes of Brittany right in the heart of the old town, and Nantes History Museum inside, to learn about the town’s heritage. The Gothic Nantes Cathedral is another must-see. After spending the night in a Première Classe hotel, continue your getaway with a trip to the botanical garden, an incredible and immense English landscape garden. For a cultural pit stop with a warm, welcoming feel, head to Lieu Unique (LU), where regular performances are held.
If you’re lucky enough to be in Nantes for longer, explore some of the city’s hidden gems during your stay. A few museums are a must: the Art Museum, Jules Verne Museum — all about the life and works of the Nantes-born novelist — or perhaps the Memorial to the Abolition of Slavery. Nantes is one of the greenest cities in France, with plenty of parks and gardens that are perfect for taking a stroll and chilling out: the Parc du Procé, Parc de la Beaujoire, île de Versailles and many more. In the evenings, there’s a comfortable bed waiting for you in one of our Première Classe hotels.
A family vacation to Nantes without seeing Les Machines de l’île, the mechanical animals who have made the old shipyards their home, just wouldn’t be right. As the ultimate attraction, you can even take a ride on the elephant’s back. Climb aboard the Carousel of the Marine Worlds for a magical voyage to the depths of the ocean. Another must-see for all the family is the Planetarium, which makes learning about the night sky fun. Feel like winding down in the fresh air before heading back to your hotel? Head to one of the city’s many green spaces.

A fascinating anecdote about Nantes

The Quai de la Fosse on the banks of the Loire is famous in Nantes. With tongue in cheek, the locals sometimes refer to it as the “quai de la fesse” (butt cheek quay). It’s actually the former red-light district, and visiting sailors’ first port of call. The bordellos closed in 1946, following the Marthe Richard law. Keen to explore the Pays de la Loire further afield? Check out our affordable Première Classe hotels in Cholet, Le Mans and La Roche-sur-Yon for your next stay.
