Chateauroux is a sleepy town perched gracefully on the banks of the river Indre. It is in the heart of the Loire Valley in the Indre department. This is a flower-adorned town with picturesque buildings and excellent museums. The culture is rich and the food is authentically rustic with goat’s cheese and locally-produced wines widely available.

LB Chateauroux are one of French football’s top teams and the town is home to their stadium. Although Chateauroux is situated in the Centre region, it is just two hours from Paris and has retained its quaint French charm. The lush Chateauroux Forest and the Brenne National park border the town providing a breathtaking backdrop. Whether you take a short break here to admire the architecture or a longer holiday to see it all, Chateauroux is sure to charm you. The museums are impressive and the festivals are plentiful.

A two-day break
In two day days you will begin to understand what makes this town so charming. Visit the Chateau de Bourges and its elegant gardens. Walk through the fragrant flower gardens and its perfectly pruned bushes. Art lovers and culture vultures will appreciate the sheer magnificence of Chateau de Valençay. Dating back to 1540, this Renaissance style building features swish furniture, eleaborate domes and a flower-adorned lake. History buffs should visit St Martin’s Gate, the ramparts that surround the town.

A week-long stay
A week is just enough time to explore Chateauroux’s architectural wonders, most of which are close to the Premiere Classe Hotel Chateauroux- Saint Maur. The Church of Notre Dame is 50 metres high and has a beautiful dome decorated with a statue of the Virgin Mary. Le Cordeliers is an art gallery that holds a variety of temporary exhibits of modern art. Take a stroll through the town and enjoy some speciality goat’s cheese along with some locally produced wine at one of Chateauroux’s many quaint restaurants.

can be reached from the A20 motorway from areas such as Vierzon Toulouse and Brive-la-Gaillarde. The local railway station offers links to several areas including Paris, Limoges, Orléans and Toulouse. There is a local airport and a bus service to get around the town.

Gastronomy
The food in Chateauroux is typically rustic and, as such, very satisfying. There are restaurants to suit all budgets within the town and many are simply fantastic.
