An interesting fact about Nevers
St. Bernadette is a big part of Nevers’ religious heritage. She was still only a little girl when she is said to have seen the Virgin Mary in a cave in Lourdes. By the time she was 14 she had become a national figure, and pilgrims would flock to Lourdes to see her. The constant attention would drive her to join the St. Gildard convent in Nevers in 1866, where she lived as a nun until her death.
