Discover the culinary specialities of Mans

After a hearty breakfast in our Première Classe hotel, it’s time to sample some of Le Mans’ culinary specialties. The city has a reputation for its rillettes, made from pork, chicken, and sometimes rabbit or duck and slow-cooked in fat. Free-range Maine beef is often found on the menus of local restaurants, as is Mancelle-style loin of veal. A local Sarthe wine, like a Jasnières or Coteaux du Loir, is the perfect pairing. When it comes to dessert, give in to the temptation of chocolate, and indulge in a unique sweet treat like a Bugattise or Rilletée.

Something worth knowing about Le Mans

Le Mans is considered the first city to have formed a Treaty of Alliance with another European city: the German city of Paderborn in 836. This was a Catholic treaty formed between two dioceses, and the bond would go on to endure for centuries. The two were officially and non-religiously twinned in 1967, when the mayors of both cities signed a bilingual Franco-German charter. Keen to carry on exploring the Pays de la Loire?
