Beziers is a vibrant town perched on a rocky hill overlooking the plain of the Herault department. Beziers has had numerous rulers throughout its history, including the Greeks and the Romans. Like many French towns, it has been the subject of gruesome battles with many locals killed off during the First World War.

Today the town is a colourful place famed for fantastic wine and bullfighting. The surrounding countryside and the ochre-tinted houses help Beziers retain its charm. The local vineyards, which supply wine to surrounding regions and other countries, have enabled the town to rebuild itself and the cheap flights to Beziers airport attract thousands of tourists every year. The town's colourful history is evident everywhere you look, from the impressive Roman Amphitheatre to the picturesque cathedral. Whether you want to sip wine by the river or watch a real-life bull fight at the local bullring, there is something for everyone in this cultural town.

A two-day break
A two day break in Beziers will leave you wanting more and you'll probably end up booking another trip when you get home ! But it is still enough time to see some of the sights that make this town so wonderful. Cathédrale St-Nazaire is an elaborate Romanesque cathedral and, dating back to the 13th century, is the main tourist attraction in Beziers. The views of the surrounding vineyards are breathtaking. Art lovers should visit the Musée des Beaux Arts where there are some amazing works of art to be admired.

A week-long stay
With a whole week you can really sample the delights this scenic town has to offer. Head to the west of Beziers and take a narrow boat trip on the Canal du Midi. The canal flows through some wonderful villages and it’s a fantastic way to see the sights.
If you are a rugby fan you will be pleased to know that Stade de la Méditerranée (the local rugby stadium) is not far from the Premiere Classe Hotel Beziers-Villeneuve Les Beziers. There are a number of other wonderful buildings worth discovering, including picturesque churches and a historic market. Why not spend a whole day discovering them - the architecture alone tells a story about this town’s history.

A family holiday
If you are travelling with young ones, head to Valras Plage Beach just outside Beziers. This is a long, golden beach with a turquoise sea. If you visit during summertime there is a children’s park and adventure playground close to the scenic harbour.

Beziers has its own local airport and provides links across Europe to cities including Paris, London and Bristol. Beziers can be reached from the A9 from several destinations such as Italy, Spain and Paris. There is a good train and bus service for getting around the town and its surrounding areas and taxis are readily available.

As a vibrant and bustling town there are plenty of places to eat in Beziers. La Potinière is a lovely restaurant serving high quality French food. Try the truffles, scallops or foie-gras. Le Latin is a quaint restaurant offering Al fresco dining and a delightful menu. The restaurant is close to the cathedral and food is both reasonably priced and delicious.

Beziers hosts events throughout the year, but the biggest and most popular of these is Feria, a four day festival, which takes place in August. The town comes to life with the sound of music and theatrics as the young men fight the bulls and the partying begins throughout the streets. Sip local wine, eat well and dance until your feet hurt during this holiday festival.

Interesting fact
Beziers is one of France’s only Bullfighting towns and is home to two historic arenas.
