What to do in Liège?

What to do in Liège over a weekend?
Week-long visit to Liège
Enjoy Liege with the whole family
A weekend away with family or friends is the perfect way to get a good look at Liège. Start with its rich architectural and religious heritage, with the 7 collegiate churches bearing precious witness to the area’s history. Make sure to check out the magnificent Saint-Paul’s Cathedral with its incredible stained-glass windows and Gothic cloister. After a restful night’s sleep in your Première Classe hotel room, take a stroll out on the Coteaux de la Citadelle, an immense green space right in the heart of the city, to enjoy a break surrounded by nature.
During your week at the Première Classe hotel, you’re sure to get well-acquainted with the Liège way of life. Exploring the Marché de La Batte — which you can find every Saturday along the left bank of the Meuse — is a must. Next, take a walk through the Hors-Château neighborhood, where the leafy façades and brick walls create a real oasis of calm. Take advantage of your longer stay to visit some of the city’s top museums: La Boverie for fine arts, the Musée du Grand Curtius for collections from several museums around Liège, and the underground Archéoforum.
Enjoy a fun-packed family stay in our Première Classe hotels in Liège, with all sorts of things to do around the city. There’s the Théâtre à Denis for one, a puppet museum where you can catch a puppet show before taking a tour of the museum itself. Not far away, the Prehistomuseum in Flémalle — a unique museum all about prehistory, with archaeological collections and all sorts of educational games for your kids to enjoy — is also worth a visit. A little further is Forestia, a wildlife and adventure park in Theux that the kids are sure to love exploring. It’s home to over 300 animals that lead a practically wild life out on the plains and forests.

A stay in Liège with the flavors of Liège

The capital city of Wallonia is bursting at the seams with culinary specialties, and restaurants where you can try them at very reasonable prices. Meat-eaters are in for a real treat with the Boulets à la Liégeoise, meatballs with a generous helping of a sweet Sirop de Liège sauce served with fries. When it’s time for something sweet, you’re guaranteed to fall for the Gaufre Liégeoise, a thick Belgian waffle made with pearl sugar, and sometimes cinnamon. There are plenty of other classic dishes to sample too, for a fabulous foodie stay at one of our Première Classe hotels in Liège.

A strange tale about Liège

During your stay at the Première Classe hotel in Liège, you might get the chance to see a show where the city’s mascot takes center stage. This mascot is called Tchantchès (sometimes spelled Tchantchèt), a legendary figure in local folklore played by a puppet. He’s the very essence of a stereotypical Liège-born man: stubborn, rebellious, and fond of a drink. His conversations with Charlemagne are loved by the people of the region, and have given the Emperor a special place in the city’s folklore, too. Tchantchès was also saddled with a wife called Nanesse, who is well-known for her strong-willed temperament.
