Family visit to Saint-Malo
On the northern coast of Brittany, Saint-Malo is a favorite weekend destination for French vacationers. The old town, surrounded by city walls, is home to all kinds of treasures. Visitors will love Saint-Malo Cathedral, Hôtel Asfeld — the oldest known ship-owner’s home — and the many other historic buildings to be found there. The castle in Saint-Malo, built by the Dukes of Brittany, is home to the city’s history museum. Climb all the way to the top of the keep for a spectacular view of the bay. From your hotel, Saint-Malo is your oyster.
A week-long stay is perfect for enjoying a trip to Saint-Malo. There’s so much to see — and all within easy reach of your Première Classe hotel! The city walls, the Château de Saint-Malo, Hôtel Asfeld, Saint-Malo Cathedral, Grand Bé and the beaches are all head-turners. Sailing enthusiasts should also schedule in a visit to the Musée du Long-Cours Cap-Hornier, a shipping museum. Get out of the city for a while to admire the malouinières, the ship-owners’ beautiful homes, and the Parc de la Briantais. Make the most of the rest of your stay by taking in Mont-Saint-Michel and Dinan, and booking yourself a room in our affordable hotels in Dinard.
Saint-Malo is practically a playground in itself for families. A visit to the old town is a journey back in time to the age of pirates and ship-owners. Discover the city’s secrets, from the cathedral to the castle. Then take a walk along its walls and beaches. The Grand Aquarium is always a hit with kids, with its tropical fish, coral, and more. Its Nautibus submarine will plunge you all the way to the watery depths. Once back on dry land, head to the Parc de la Briantais to let off some steam. After a fun-filled day, head back to the comfort of your Première Classe hotel room.

Discover the culinary specialities of Saint-Malo
The delicious specialties to be found in Saint-Malo will have you melting with joy. After an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet at your Première Classe hotel, take to the streets to find markets, deli stores and Breton restaurants. The local cuisine is a real party of gourmet flavors. Crêpes and galettes form the basis of any typical meal in this part of the country. Check out the craquelins, too: little hollow pastries that can be filled with salted butter, jam or cheese. Looking for a souvenir to remind you of your stay? Pick up some salted caramel candies, and Patates de Saint-Malo.

Saint-Malo’s must-sees
Spending some time in Saint-Malo? Take your fill of cultural and sporting events, all within easy reach of your Première Classe hotel. The city keeps locals and visitors entertained with a jam-packed calendar. There’s the Quai des Bulles, Étonnants Voyageurs, Route du Rock and Folklores du Monde festival to name but the biggest, all with national — and even international — reputations. Throughout the year, Saint-Malo is a stage for plays, concerts, exhibitions, talks, literary walks, flea markets and more...young or old, there’s something for everyone here.

Anecdote about Saint-Malo
François-René de Chateaubriand, originally from Saint-Malo, was buried here. Have you seen his tomb during your adventures through the city? The famous Romantic writer and author of ‘Memoirs from Beyond the Grave’ found his final resting place on Grand Bé. The islet sits across the water from the city, and can be reached at low tide. On the tomb, which is listed as a historic monument, is an inscription in French: “A great French writer wished to be laid to rest here, to hear but the wind and the sea. Please honor his dying wish.”
