TRAVEL GUIDE

What to do in Vannes?

Weekend trip to Vannes
A week-long visit to Vannes
Discover Vannes with your family
For a weekend, escape to a world away from the day-to-day. Vannes’ historical district is dotted with timber-framed houses, cobblestone streets, and remarkable monuments. To visit the medieval city, go up onto the ramparts, then come back down by the landscaped areas below. During your walk, you will come across Château Gaillard, Château de l'Hermine, the cathedral, the port, Porte Saint-Vincent, and more. Between sightseeing trips close to your hotel, treat yourself to a tasting of local specialties.
A stay in Vannes on the horizon? With our Première Classe hotels, the city’s identity will tell its own story. The medieval streets and the ambiance of the port and markets are in themselves worth the trip. Also visit the city hall, the port, the ramparts, the castles, the cathedral, and the churches. Whatever the season, Vannes knows how to take its visitors breath away. Organize walks along the seaside or on the Gulf. Boats offer trips to Île-aux-Moines and Île d'Arz.
Enjoy your Vannes getaway with the children. After settling into your Première Classe hotel room, head to the city center. Discover together the ramparts and the castles before making a gourmet stop at a creperie. Then, the choice to have fun is up to you. Celt'Aventures delights enthusiasts of high ropes courses, while Parc de Branféré is the favorite of animal lovers. But you can also simply plan for a getaway to Carnac and Quiberon.

Vannes, a destination for a gourmet stay

A trip to Brittany would not be perfect without savoring the region’s culinary specialties. After an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet at your Première Classe hotel, search out the fish tanks, creperies and biscuiteries. Seafood of course has pride of place, so treat yourself to a beautiful platter. Crepes and galettes are also essentials in the gourmet cuisine of Vannes. And preferably filled with Guéméné andouille or salted caramel! You can enjoy your meal with a glass of hard or sweet cider.

Anecdote about Vannes

If you have visited Pontivy, Malestroit, and some other Breton cities, you may have seen sculptures representing couples placed above old stalls. Each one is named after the city “and its wife.” Vannes is not exempt from this quirky feature. On the corners of Rue Noé and Rue Pierre-René Rogue, “Vannes and its wife” seems to want to share with passerbys a message that was forgotten with time. No one really knows, but some think it is a cabaret sign, dating from the 16th century. Be sure to look up during your walk.
