Legend has it that to make the future King Henry IV strong and brave, his mother sang Bearnese songs to him as she rocked him in his cradle. It is also said that when the child was born, Henri d’Albret — his grandfather — rubbed a clove of garlic across his lips and fed him a few drops of Jurançon.
